Project: New mixed use development with 43 apartments in Santa Barbara’s downtown core

The owner of these properties asked us to completely re-envision what is possible and best for the future use. We responded by studying their holdings, the area, zoning parameters and designed a paseo based layout that simultaneously provides much needed housing downtown and enhances the charm of the area. We envisioned a design that reaches back to the romance of Santa Barbara style. The massing is varied to appear built over time along a pedestrian paseo with different details, heights, balconies and landscape. We worked with the City Planning Department and Design Review Board to achieve the right balance between the appearance and the owners bottom line. Currently the project has very favorable comments from the Historic Landmarks Commission and the Planning Commission. We look forward to continuing to refine this design in the coming months!
